So now I’m back in the Queen City of Regina, Saskatchewan! People are back to school and I’m making an attempt to get my mind readjusted to student life. I have to turn the switch in my mind from mill worker to pre-service teacher.

We had our first day back in the classroom on Friday, August 31 and it was great to see all my old University friends once again. We had a lunch catered to us by the University and discussed our field trip that we are going on this week. We are headed off to Christopher Lake Saskatchewan, which is close to Prince Albert. It is about a 4 hour drive from here. We’ll be spending 3 days, and in that time we will be participating in many different activities. We are learning more about our Metis culture, and we were given a few choices in activities to participate in. I chose to go to a sweat (basically a sauna I think) and a 4 hour canoeing trip. Should be a really good time full of adventure and learning. We are also doing a gift exchange during this time. We are sort of encouraged to make gifts instead of buy, so I hand wove a miniature Metis sash, I’ll show that off below.

It’s also great to be moved back into my condo. It’s about a 5 minute walk from the University so it’s a great place to stay. I’ve been making my own meals, and by my making I mean putting rice in the microwave and buying a pre-cooked chicken. Delish.

I also helped my sister move into her new house this weekend. She started working as an LPN in Yorkton Saskatchewan which is exciting. That’s only about a 2 hour drive from Regina so I’m definitely going to make frequent visits when I have free time on weekends.

And my brother is also moved in with me at my condo too! So the whole family (minus the parents, who are still way up in Hudson Bay) are all pretty close together!

Finally, I’d like to close by expressing my deepest gratitude to the Forest Products Industry of Canada and the Greenest Workforce for choosing me as their summer intern blogger. Having the opportunity to blog about my work experiences throughout the summer has been amazing and a great chance to learn and teach others about the forest products industry.

As I move into the Education field, having a first hand experience working at Weyerhaeuser will be able to help me teach and encourage future students about the forest products industry.

Here’s my sisters fancy new house, post move in. And her dog Skipper!

Here’s the miniature Sash I created
