Hello and welcome to my Green Dream Blog!

My name is Courtney Jackson, I am a twenty-four year old, Fish and Wildlife Technician and an outdoors enthusiast! I am very passionate about our environment and I love to learn about the Earth. Anyone that knows me, knows that I like to ask a lot of questions. It is simply because I love to learn, I am curious, and I am always eager to learn something new. The opportunity to become a Green Dream Blogger for Forest Products Association of Canada is a green dream! Over the next few months, I plan to blog about my day-to-day experiences working as a Woodlands Operations Intern at Resolute Forest Products in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the summer unravels and I look forward to blogging about my summer experiences in the forest products industry!

A little bit about me:

Last fall, I began my studies at Lakehead University. I transferred from Sir Sandford Fleming College into third-year of the Honours Bachelor of Environmental Management program. My first year living in Thunder Bay was an absolute blast! I’m very happy that I decided to further my education as well as relocate to north-western Ontario. When it came time to apply for summer jobs, I was eager and determined to find a position in or around Thunder Bay because I had heard that the summers were absolutely amazing here. I also really wanted to learn more about Boreal Forest and the species that comprise this forest.

My first month and a half at Resolute has been awesome! I have learned so much about Resolute Forest Products as well as the Boreal forest! So far, I have been exposed to a variety of forestry operations, observed various heavy equipment that is used in the harvesting operations, gained knowledge of forest planning, road layout, construction and maintenance, water crossing installations and health and safety in the work place etc. Along my travels across the forests, I have seen many beautiful vistas, hiked in a variety of upland and lowland forests, observed a variety of wildlife and as the sun keeps shining and the weather gets warmer, the forests continue to flourish! I’m always prepared with a camera in hand to document my observations and findings. I’m excited for this opportunity to blog about my summer experiences and share all my neat photos with the world! I must say, I am most excited when I stumble upon species of plants because I love to how unique they are to an environment. They also can’t move when I want to capture a photo unlike some of the wildlife that I’ve only been able to capture with my eyes!
