Hello friends,

This marks the last installment of my blog to you all. I have really enjoyed sharing with you my experience with Weyerhaeuser and my many outdoor adventures in the Peace Country. With the arrival of September, many are headed back to school but I am looking forward to another 4 months of learning in Grande Prairie before returning for my last four months of school in January.

Learning and Breaking Biases

Hello friends,

Before I came up here to Grande Prairie I had a lot of preconceived ideas about the forest products industry. People I talked to had said that the industry was in decline, the methods used were outdated, and there was little innovation occurring. What an eye opening experience it has been to find that the industry is anything but declining.

Generally, I work from 7:00 to 4:30 in the Chemical and Utilities department which is in charge of recovering the chemicals used in the pulping process and providing utilities such as electricity,

PACWEST Conference in Whistler

Hello everyone,

Two weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the PACWEST conference in Whistler, British Columbia. This conference focuses on the strong relationship that exists between the pulp and paper industry and the many equipment and material suppliers who support them. The theme of this years conference was “leveraging our competitive advantages” with discussion focusing on the technological innovation and process improvements among Canadian pulp producers.
