Company History

In the early 1990s, Kvaerner Chemetics and Paprican (now FPInnovations) partnered to develop a different kind of pulp liquor analyzer, for which they jointly obtained US and International patents. In 2002, Kvaerner sold their process control business to ABB Analytical, who assumed 50% of the patent.

ABB contracted Tom Sands Consulting Inc. to assist with the design, installation and start-up of their new systems. In 2007, Tom Sands Consulting Inc. was selected as the exclusive distributor of the NIR analyzer for pulp and paper mills worldwide. One year later FITNIR Analyzers Inc. was born, with Tom Sands at the helm bringing on board his 32 years of experience in the pulp industry.

With FITNIR’s budding success, Thanh Trung joined the company. As the creator of the technology, Thanh wanted to see the uptake of the analyzer flourish. His intimate knowledge of the analyzer and of the industry made Thanh an ideal partner.

Today, FITNIR Analyzers’ reputation of excellent customer service and superior technology is spreading, as more and more pulp mills implement our process analyzers. Uptake throughout Canada and the United States and internationally.

FITNIR is the exclusive global distributor of FITNIR Online and FITNIR Benchtop, FPInnovations’ optically-based, FT-NIR (Fourier-Transform Near Infrared) pulp liquor analyzers.

FITNIR’s analyzers reliably measure complete liquor compositions, driving process control strategies to optimize pulp mill operations including the digester, recovery boiler, recausticizer, ClO2 generator and brownstock washer.

Handling up to eight field sampling stations and six samples for each field sampling station, FITNIR Online can easily be scaled up to accommodate new applications and process streams.

A compact, plug and play pulp liquor analyzer providing fast and accurate measurements of a complete suite of key liquor properties, FITNIR Benchtop provides pulp mills with a cost-effective solution that can be applied to a multitude of operational areas.

FITNIR offers a kappa analyzer that utilizes NIR spectroscopy to measure the kappa number of kraft pulp. FITNIR Kappa does not rely on other parameters for measurement (such as sample weight), automates sample preparation, and eliminates all associated chemicals.
