Why Work in the North: My Final Blog of 2020

Somehow the summer is already approaching its end.  The past few weeks of August spent doing research, interpreting cutover boundaries on the 3D station, clearing haul roads of fallen trees and more have gone by very fast.  Despite the unique circumstances of the summer I have had the opportunity to learn a lot this season.  Sadly, the 2020 Green Dream blogging season is also nearing its end.

As my summer work with Tolko begins to wind down, so too does my blogging internship with FPAC. Fall is in the air and I am getting ready to head back to the University of Regina in September. Thankfully, fall is my favourite time of year because it means hunting season has arrived. For my final blog post, I’d like to reflect on the summer’s highlights and the things I learned on the job this field season.

For my final entry in the Green Dream Blog, I would like to give an overall summation of my summer in Grande Prairie, as well as fill you in with some of the other odds and ends that I was able to participate in this work season.

As another summer work season quickly approaches the end, it is difficult to look back and feel as though I participated in as many tasks as I had hoped.

Hello readers,

For this blog post, I am going to talk about the specific reasons why I enjoy working in the Tolko Woodlands division of the forest industry. 

Most woodlands divisions are similar with one goal in mind. It is their responsibility to manage the forest and to supply the mills with enough wood to keep them running efficiently.
