highly motivated professional to fill the role of:

Assistant Forester,
SILVICULTURE

Starting your career as an Assistant Forester allows you to be
exposed to all aspects of a Woodland’s Team. You will have the
opportunity to gain skills through assigned roles and
responsibilities within the silviculture, planning and operations
departments, emphasizing gaining a wide range of practical
experience in forestry. As a Silviculture Forester within our
division, you will work with the team on all aspects of
silviculture; including creating site prescriptions, supervising
stand tending site preparation and planting programs, as well as
assisting in budget preparations and reporting.  

Reporting to the Silviculture Superintendent, you will enjoy a
balanced mix of both field and office work. You will be working
with a team that promotes personal and skills development, in a fun
and competitive environment.  There will be future
opportunities for advancement as new skills are acquired, and
opportunities become available throughout the many Woodland groups
of West
Fraser.                                                                                                

Responsibilities include a full range of forest
silviculture activities:

The silviculture department at Fraser Lake Sawmills takes pride
in promoting excellent forest stewardship practices and encourages
the advancement of our field with innovative practices.  Your
primary responsibilities will be focused on, but certainly not
limited to the following:     
 

  • Supervision of summer student and term student positions
  • Preparing site prescriptions for reforestation, stand tending,
    and site preparation
  • Data management in LRM and RESULTS reporting
  • Silviculture surveys and monitoring
  • Supervision of consultants and activities
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets
  • Safety and environmental performance

Our ideal candidate would have the
following:

  • Be a graduate from a recognized forestry school and be an RPF,
    RFT, or be eligible to enroll as a Forester-In-Training or Trainee
    Forest Technologist with the Association of BC Forest
    Professionals.
  • Knowledge of BC forest legislation
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication
    skills

Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience
in an industrial forest setting. The successful candidate should
have a passion for the outdoors and be eager to learn new
skills.
