BC has an opportunity for a:
Database Administrator – SQL Server
Responsibilities:
Installing, configuring and upgrading the database
Modifying the database structure, as needed
Backing up and restoring databases
Liaising with database vendors for technical support
Monitor and optimize the performance of database queries
including preparation of periodical metrics
Maintaining appropriate memory and disk space to ensure system
performance
Troubleshooting live database issues
Maintaining the indexes
Maintaining established statistics
Checking database integrity
Assessing database integrity issues
Patching Database Server for security flaws
Conducting established security check protocol
Considering and granting security access requests
Reviewing availability groups and assessing for high
availability
Ensuring adherence to our disaster recovery plan
Liaising with application support and developers on demand
Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment
activities
Follow Change Management processes to implement database
configuration changes
Trouble shoot and resolve database connectivity issues
Plan, deploy upgrades or modifications to improve performance
and availability of SQL servers/ Oracle databases
Build, maintain overall systems architecture concerning
databases back-end servers and computing environment
Oversee database policies and procedures to ensure the
integrity and availability of databases
Develop, enhance tools and procedures used for automated checks
and monitoring the status of databases
Enforce and maintain compliance of Microsoft SQL Server
database environments with internal database security
standards
Position Requirements:
University degree in Computer Science or related information
technology degree/diploma
3 – 5 years’ experience with Microsoft database platforms and
Azure SQL
Driven and able to learn new technologies in short
timeframes
Moderate knowledge of T-SQL Languages
Windows batch scripting and PowerShell
Critical thinker and have adept problem-solving skills
Basic knowledge of Microsoft data migration and ETL tools
Some experience with Monitoring & Diagnostic tools
Some knowledge working with Windows servers
Some knowledge of storage systems as it applies to hosting
databases
Knowledge of SQL Clustering, High Availability (HA) and (DR)
options for SQL Server is an asset
Implementing operational automation using scripts (PowerShell,
T-SQL, VB Scripts, etc.)
Experience performance tuning and troubleshooting of queries,
stored procedures, and SSIS packages.
Experience Indexing for performance (index maintenance and
statistics, index usage analysis, etc.).
Experienced with Database cloud services: Azure SQL
Experience with On-premises, Cloud, and Hybrid database
environments design, development, and support
DR strategies design, implementation, and testing
experience.
Understanding of Database security and implementation of best
practices in database access
Experienced with Source Code repository such as (Subversion) to
support software development life cycle
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both
technical and non-technical scenarios
Positive and people-oriented personality that is
action-oriented.
Microsoft SQL Server Certification is an asset
Experience with SQL Server 2016 and higher is an asset
Experience working with Windows Server 2016 and higher is an
asset
Experience with Middleware such as IIS is an asset
