This is now my second summer living in Peace River and I’m glad to be back. Last summer I got an internship with Daishowa Marubeni International by winning a contest put on by the greenest workforce called the green dream contest, where students interested in a career in forestry could win an internship with a forestry company. The summer was great and I learned a lot about forestry and the various programs that DMI is involved with that are helping to develop a better understanding of Alberta’s forest ecosystems.

I am really enjoying working for DMI and spending time in Peace River.
I was able to make sometime the other day to check out the Peace River valley and take sme pictures up on one of the highest hills in the area “12 Foot Davis.”
One interesting thing I have done recently is collect root samples from aspen trees.

The other day I got the opportunity to do something that I had been looking forward to since getting the internship with DMI, go for a flight in a helicopter. This was one of the things that they mentioned I may be able to do during my time here at DMI, and I was thrilled when I was told that it was actually going to happen.

The past couple of weeks working here at Daishowa-Marubeni International Ltd. have been filled with excitement.
I spent the other day driving to hawk hills to assess logging road conditions there with a fellow co-worker. We went as far as we could by truck, and then hopped onto the quads to get into the heart of the bush.

I have now been working at DMI for just over a month and the experience so far has been amazing to say the least.
I arrived in the beautiful town of Peace River in Northern Alberta on May 4th after 4 days of driving from Ontario. It was a long trip, but being able to see parts of Canada I had never seen before was definitely worth it.
