A week with Kyle

Another week has gone by, with only two more weeks remaining in my internship. This week I worked with Kyle Waterman the entire week, I helped him with his roads projects as well as him helping me with the pine beetle baiting program. It was a pretty typical week, other than Kyle finding a moose antler! I was glad he found it because I drove past it right before he found it (doh).

The Final Stretch

Holy Beetles! July 28, 2013

This past week has been an interesting one! Kyle and I center lined two roads, which were by far the toughest we have done so far, requiring us to travel through dense brush and swamps. At the end of the day, we felt we had really accomplished something and were able to see the results of our work on GPS.

Summer goes on

Hello again.  It feels like summer is almost over, with only about one month left of the internship! Where does the time go?

I have spent the majority of this past week with Kyle Waterman, another intern, doing culvert inspections and center lining roads. Last Friday, we ran into some heavy rain in our adventure to find a road.

Hello readers! It has been a few days now since I have updated my blog — my internship is keeping me busy! Recently, I have been working with the silviculture group, assessing tree-planting blocks. We check for various planting errors, as well as the density of plantings in an area.  I enjoy working in the blocks at Tom Hill, as there is nice scenery,

Life in Millar Western’s Helitak Crew

It has been over a month now that I have been on the Helitack crew, with each day bringing new experiences! As a member of Millar Western’s Helitack crew, I am responsible for forest fire protection of company interests, as well as many other side projects, giving me a very broad exposure of the forestry industry. My first day was certainly my most memorable to date.

My Journey Into the Internship

My name is Connor Vale, and I am excited to now be a Green Dream Intern as well as part of the Millar Western team! My home is in Bowmanville, Ontario, and I am currently a student, studying toward a Bsc in Forestry at the University of British Columbia.  My experiences thus far at Millar Western have been amazing, and I am very happy to accomplish what I had originally set out to do.
