July 6, 2020 2:22 pm Published by Leave your thoughts

It’s that time of year when you start to wonder why the temperature is hitting 30 degrees and you realize “oh no, summer is half over”. That’s how I’ve felt this past week. I can’t believe that it’s already July and everyone is making the most of Canada’s birthday. I’ve had an interesting week in the field as I was given a new toy to reduce the risks of heat stroke associated with spending long days walking cut blocks.

Did I Break the Mill? Probably

Oi welcome back to the next most exciting thing since video chats with your boss where he accidentally turned himself into a potato on zoom. Today I’m talking about the projects I’ve been assigned and a few projects I’ve assigned myself.

My blog will mention the use of HMIs and the PLC. In short, the HMIs are electronic display stations set around the mill that can be linked to different tags.

Hello! My name is Julia Hollingsworth, and I am one of this year’s silviculture interns at Weyerhaeuser Grande Prairie. Recently, I finished the first year of my Master of Forestry degree at the University of Alberta. After studying Biology at UNBC, I worked in Grande Prairie for a few years, so I am very happy to be able to do an internship in the place I call home.

Ah yes. The summer project. A subject for focal practice. A diligence builder. A black hole for all the extra time and energy that the summer is so conducive to. Let me introduce you to the “Drummer Boy”, an electronics/programming amalgamation of rhythm, and my DIY project for the summer. It’s an 8-bit, 8 voice polyphonic, polyrhythmic, sample-based drum machine inspired by the iconic Roland 808 drum machine used in the production of tracks like “Paul Revere” by Beastie Boys and “Love Lockdown” by Kanye West.
