West Fraser’s Hinton Woodlands division located in
Hinton; Alberta has an immediate opening for a highly
motivated professional for the following position:

Safety/Environment Coordinator

Reporting to the Woodlands Manager, the Safety/EMS Resource will
work as part of the woodlands team responsible for all aspects of
the implementation of both the Safety and Environmental Management
Systems, the development of key safety initiatives and for
providing leadership in the continuous improvement of both the
Safety and Environmental Management Systems and procedures while
ensuring compliances provincial and federal legislation. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by
    ensuring woodlands staff and contractors are compliant with all
    safe practices, policies, processes, acting in a safe manner.
  • Ensuring the woodlands staff and contractors are fully
    compliant with environmental legislation, regulations, and
    corporate environmental policies.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly Key Performance Indicator reports to
    focus on operational improvement actions.
  • Audit safety and environmental performance compliance with
    policies, programs and procedures.
  • Manage safety incident reporting and follow-up programs,
    including trend analysis.
  • Manage environmental incident reporting and follow-up programs,
    including trend analysis.
  • Conduct periodic field audits and inspections.
  • Assist in safety manual development and continuous
    improvement.
  • Chair divisional EMS and safety committee meetings.
  • Review divisional EMS documents.
  • Ensure divisional EMS documents remain current.
  • Coordinate EMS training for woods staff, contractors and
    consultants.
  • Compile EMS records for SFI reporting.

Our ideal candidate would have:

  • Possess a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered
    Professional Forester Tech (RPFT) designation for Alberta (or be
    eligible and willing to earn this designation).  
  • Strong commitment to safety and EMS 
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal
    skills.  
  • Be highly motivated, with proven
    organizational skills.
