We are seeking a full-time, permanent, remote Management Forester to join our team. This position is based out of Edmonton Alberta, and is a remote work opportunity. Reporting directly to the Strategic Management Superintendent, the successful candidate will provide support to the Woodlands Department through the development and application of Detailed Forest Management Plans, analysis of Woodlands initiatives and coordination and application of relevant research and innovations.

Role and Responsibilities

Support the development of MPR’s detailed forest management plans including forest inventory updates, growth and yield, timber supply analysis, stakeholder engagement and Indigenous consultation.
Participate in forest management planning processes for MPR’s quotas.
Represent, lead and/or coordinate MPR’s research initiatives for ecosystem-based management, land use, biodiversity, healthy landscapes and ecosystem services.
Coordination of MPR’s FRIAA projects including administration of accounts, activities, reports and audits.
Transfer of forest management strategies and research findings to internal staff, stakeholders and Indigenous communities.
Collaboration with researchers, government representatives, Indigenous communities and stakeholders to continually improve our management, seek out value-added opportunities and build constructive relationships.
Regular communication and training of staff and contractors of MPR’s ecosystem-based management and land stewardship philosophy.
Write policies, strategies and guidelines related to sustainable forest management and biodiversity stewardship.
Additional duties, as required

Qualifications and Experience

10+ years of experience working within the forest sector, with a preference for strategic planning experience.
University degree in forestry, environment, or other related discipline.
Qualification as a Registered Forest Professional in AAFMP or ability to do so within twelve months.
Strong understanding of forest management planning, forest inventory, growth and yield, principles of EBM and silviculture and their relationship to strategic, tactical and operational objectives.
Working knowledge of provincial and federal acts, regulations, and policies applicable to forestry, environment, and health and safety in Alberta.
Proficient writing skills with demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality technical reports, including forest management plans, guidelines, technical notes, project proposals, etc.
Knowledge and/or ability to develop skills with various software programs, including Remsoft’s Woodstock Optimization Studio, Google Suite of Applications, ArcGIS Pro, etc.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency with GIS applications.
Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 operator license.
Ability to work remotely/from home.
