Blog 4 – Conner Kazema

Hello once again! It’s been a fun few weeks working at Weyerhaeuser and hanging out in and around Hudson Bay.

On the Weyerhaeuser front, I’ve been working the RBS (Radiant Barrier Sheathing) line quite frequently over the last two weeks and I do feel that my forklifting skill set is slowly but surely improving. I can stack bundles without falling way behind so that’s always a good thing! It’s been a while since I’ve ironically been called “speedy” so that’s also a good thing! I won’t talk too much about RBS because I already have that covered in blog #2, which you can feel free to read if you have yet to do so.

“Down days” have also consisted of me and a team chipping away in the blenders. That’s still a job that keeps me in shape. No gym time necessary on those days, only bedtime.

My family and I travelled to Yorkton Saskatchewan this past weekend for an event called “Rhythm and Ribs.” To explain this briefly, the “rhythm” part of the title refers to the plethora of different bands that come in to play live music for people enjoying the “ribs” part of the title. There were five different “ribbers” that came to the event to cook barbecue type foods. We had ribs, cornbread, pulled pork, brisket, beans and coleslaw. Absolutely delicious. Pictures I took of the event will be attached. There was also a Mexican cuisine stand, a poutine stand, ice cream, and different dessert foods. It was a great weekend that makes me hungry thinking back on it.

I’d also like to talk briefly about the weather in Hudson Bay. It’s sort of one extreme or the other here. We either have a gigantic storm that knocks out the power and throws down trees, or we have a super dry and hot day. Recently we’ve had a couple massive thunderstorms that have been beautifully chaotic. I know that’s an oxymoron but it’s true. Watching the lighting brilliantly flash and dance around the sky and the sound of heavy rain pouring down to earth in droves is an almost exhilarating feeling. But at the same time the wind is strong enough to throw trees to the street and on top of building which is crazy. I’ll attach a picture I took during one such storm that knocked a tree down in front of my grandmothers house.

I’ll be heading to Calgary next week for my cousins wedding, so I’ll include travel pictures of that for my next blog entry. I’ll also be heading to Banff to get some much needed hiking and possibly kayaking in. And as always, I’ll continue to update about my work experiences with Weyerhaeuser, making the finest OSB around. (Am I biased? MAYBE, but our OSB is OBJECTIVELY GREAT. Go buy some for yourself and see. The finishing touches on the RBS is lovingly and painstakingly created with nothing less than perfection in mind by yours truly. Absolutely nothing less than flawless passes my intense criteria for inspection. I am the finishing end.)

ANYWAYS, signing out! Catch you in another 2 weeks with my next instalment! PEACE!

This is a branch that went through a persons roof during the storm due to a tree falling on their house.
