Hudson Bay has always been a small town with lots of spirit and our homecoming weekend really represents that. All in all it’s a great weekend that displays the pride and sense of community in Hudson Bay. So that’s what I’m choosing to talk about here today!

This year we opened with a car show and beer gardens that brought out a bunch of car enthusiasts. It was really neat to see all the different muscle cars brought into our town from far and wide.

We also had our annual parade where businesses and people bring floats, tractors, horses, cars and so on down the streets of Hudson Bay and people watch from the side as they go by. I personally didn’t come out and watch the parade, but I know that Weyerhaeuser put a float or something into the parade which is cool to see the company getting into the spirit of the weekend. I know they’ve done this for prior years as well, as I remember riding on one as a kid.

And finally there was the street dance and firework show. For the street dance they block off a section of our main street and put on live music. People flood into the street and have a great time dancing, having a few drinks and listening to some live music. You can basically hear it across town. It’s a small town and the music is quite loud.

The fireworks was my personal favourite part of the weekend and I tried to capture some pictures to show here, but it’s not exactly easy to photograph fireworks. I did my best though! I find Hudson Bay always tends to go all out on their fireworks shows. I’ve watched fireworks put on by much larger centers that fail to come anywhere close to the level of show that Hudson Bay puts on. The show lasts a good 10-15 minutes and almost the entire time the sky is completely lit up. Sure their are slower moments where maybe only 1 or 2 fireworks are launched at a time, but for the most part the sky is completely engulfed in different colors. Kudos to whomever puts on that show!

I was also interviewed over the phone by the internal Weyerhaeuser news site; “Roots” and that’s getting published soon which I’m looking forward to seeing. Getting an interview like that for a news site over the phone was definitely a new experience for me so I’m glad to have experienced it.

My time in Hudson Bay is very quickly coming to an end and it won’t be long now until I return to Regina to continue schooling, but until then I look forward to blogging about my adventures here! Thanks for reading!
