My Final Blog

Well guys, I guess this is my final blog of the summer; I’m still in disbelief that it’s over. I know it sounds cheesy but it literally feels like yesterday I started my internship with Weyerhaeuser. The last week was probably one of the calmest weeks of the entire summer. Completing lots of wrap up tasks, compiling the herbicide data and washing a ton of mud off the quads and pickups. My last day was exceedingly difficult; saying goodbye to everyone at work as well as my new friends in Grande Prairie was bittersweet.

With that being said, I would like to send another huge thank you to everyone at Weyerhaeuser, whom were so welcoming and helpful all summer. Especially my supervisors Angie Kuysters and Jaime Miller for making this summer feel more like play than work. I would also like to thank The Greenest Workforce, Forest Products Association of Canada for providing this incredible opportunity to all the green dream interns. If they enjoyed their jobs half as much as I did this summer, it is certainly an experience they will never forget

Going into my last year of school will not be nearly as exciting as my internship on a day-to-day basis, however I am more optimistic. Actually having the opportunity to apply knowledge learned in lectures or see scenarios on a first hand basis has made me more confident in my degree. As I am sure anyone in university could agree, there’s a constant pressure whether your degree will be suitable enough to secure a job you are passionate about. This summer I met amazing people from a wide variety of scholastic backgrounds: accounting, zoology, criminology but yet they were all working in a forestry related field. It just goes to show that opportunity is out there if you’re willing to work for it because after all life is better here, living the green dream.

Cheers, Brooke
