Well guys, I guess this is my final blog of the summer; I’m still in disbelief that it’s over. I know it sounds cheesy but it literally feels like yesterday I started my internship with Weyerhaeuser. The last week was probably one of the calmest weeks of the entire summer. Completing lots of wrap up tasks, compiling the herbicide data and washing a ton of mud off the quads and pickups.

These past two weeks I’ve been assisting with Weyerhaeuser’s aerial herbicide project. It was very unique task; I had the opportunity to stay in a camp, which was an awesome experience. The camp lifestyle took a bit of adjusting; my primary job during the spray was weather monitoring. This entailed getting up at 4:30 a.m. every morning and driving out to the cut block.

Well the tree plant is officially done! 8.7 million trees in 3 months is awesome considering all the last minute changes implemented because of the fire on Weyerhaeuser’s FMA. Luckily we only lost about 3000 hectares; they will probably be on the list for the 2015 tree plant.
This means I am on to the next project of the summer,

This past month I was fortunate enough to get a taste from home. My older sister Jessie travelled to Grande Prairie from Toronto to visit me for a week. She flew in Wednesday night with a tent and her steel toes, ready to see what Alberta had to offer. Thursday Jessie came to work with me and met some of the tree planters.

These past three weeks I have been mainly out and about with the tree planters because production rates are insane! Between the two camps the planters can put in about 230,000 trees in one day. So for the most part I’ve been working along side them to ensure quality is maintained. I’ve also done a couple camp inspections, which is always interesting to see how each different camp is set up.

Hey guys, sorry I’ve been a little behind on the blog posts lately but as per usual it’s easy to stay busy around here. These past few weeks have been all about new experiences for me. I went in my first helicopter ride; unfortunately I was way too excited about the whole situation and it never even cross my mind to take any pictures,

Well another 2 weeks have gone by which means I have even more exciting stuff to tell you guys about! Last week was pretty standard with being out in the bush, I did my first full block assessment of season. So basically what this entails is going into a cut block, after the planters are finished, and throwing a plot every 100 metres.

Hi I’m Brooke and I will be completing my Green Dream internship with Weyerhaeuser Timberlands in Grande Prairie, Alberta. It’s hard to believe I’m already headed into week 2 up here; everything’s been a whirlwind of activity between leaving Ontario and getting settled up here in Alberta. Flying on my own was a new experience in itself on top of moving to a location where you literally know no one.
