Jeremy in the Great Outdoors

My fellow bloggers on The Greenest Workforce suggest that #lifesbetterhere because of the great outdoor opportunities available on the doorstep of forestry communities. I’ve reiterated that I’m not a huge fan of outdoor activities, but inspired by other Green Dream Interns, I decided to go for a walk on one of Vernon’s most spectacular trails.

My time on the Grey Canal Trail was well rewarded – high above the valley on a stunningly clear Okanagan day, I had the opportunity to watch the sun shimmer on Okanagan Lake as vacationers and locals lazed on the beach or took to the water. I also climbed up to Rocky Ridge Park where I enjoyed a panoramic view of Vernon atop Turtle Mountain (see the photo).

Great Outdoor

The Grey Canal Trail is just one of the many trails that surround Vernon. Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park and Ellison Provincial Park provide a plethora of hidden lookouts of Kalamalka Lake and Okanagan Lake respectively. Beautiful BX Falls are a local favorite, located along a well-forested path nestled in the valley. Unique flora and fauna flourish in this unique ecosystem, providing outdoorspeople a refreshing and breathtaking experience – all within 10 minutes of Tolko’s corporate office in downtown Vernon.

My summer at Tolko may be (unfortunately) coming to a close, but I may have to revisit the region’s trails so that I can more fully appreciate why #lifesbetterhere in Vernon.
