Slideshow!

This summer is flying by and is almost to an end. I have been to the West Edmonton Mall a few times now, a rodeo, Jasper National Park and even to the falls here in Whitecourt! And since so much has gone on recently, I decided to put some of my extra and old photos in a slideshow, which can be accessed via the link at the bottom of this blog post.
As background, the slide show features pictures of the Edmonton mall, including its huge pirate ship, and photos of the rodeo I went to a few weeks ago. There are some new photos of when I went to Hard Luck Falls this past weekend. It’s a relaxing hike up to the top of the canyon, where you get an amazing view and even can go down some stairs to the bottom of the falls.
In addition to my outside pursuits, there are also some old and new work-related photos, including some of me inspecting culverts. Over the summer, I had the chance to see a new culvert being installed from scratch – it was interesting to be exposed to all the work that goes into proper placement. I have some good photos of logs piles and different things I encountered in my adventures, like the tipi that is located down one of our roads. It made me look twice, as I wasn’t expecting to find anything like that in the forest; it is, however, an example of some of the cultural values forest companies need to take into account when developing forest management plans.
I really enjoyed taking photos of the different equipment used for logging, including a grapple skidder used for picking up the logs after they have been dropped and delimbed. The other pieces of equipment are a delimber and a feller buncher. Both of these machines are used, hand in hand, to get the trees ready for the skidder. The feller buncher drops the trees down on the ground using a giant circular saw and grabs the trees with giant claws. When the trees are cut from their bases, it moves and stacks them in a nice neat pile. The delimber does just what its name suggests – it picks up the trees and runs them through giant drums that tear off the branches and then cuts the logs to the right length. Some of the other photos I have are of some the maps I make up, and cool things I see throughout my day.
One other image needs some explanation – a picture of a white board with different stick people. This group, which has been growing through the summer, represents some of the people I have had the pleasure to work with. Can you find me in the drawing?
I hope you enjoy the slideshow. I still have some extra photos that haven’t been posted yet. If I get enough “likes” with this posting, then I will make another slideshow at the end of the summer. But till next time, keep having a good summer!
