Job Description

We are looking for a MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR In Training for our Sault Ste. Marie I-Joist facility in Ontario. You will be responsible for learning the overall maintenance of the plant, scheduling, health and safety and working with the production team to ensure up time. You will work closely with all members of the management team.

Reporting to the Mill Manager, you will be responsible for learning to lead the maintenance team of millwrights, electricians and saw filers. You will be familiarizing yourself with maintenance group processes as well as developing the skills necessary to directly manage a team and supervise maintenance activities and thus contribute to the success of the team. You will acquire knowledge and experience over an 18 to 24 months term.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Familiarize yourself with the work of maintenance workers, subcontractors & contract staff
Achieve general knowledge of daily maintenance with emphasis on efficiency, quality and safety standards.
Gain an understanding of the facility layout and maintenance processes.
Work alongside maintenance employees to gain a working knowledge of to develop or upgrade the methodology of maintenance systems to maximize fast and reliable response to equipment problems.
Gain exposure to yard, inventories and shipping, quality control.
Develop efficient communication techniques in order to lead direct reports with work instructions, training and cross-training for all maintenance positions and assist with evaluating employee performance.
Foster information sharing and communication within teams, skills development, strengthen employee engagement, autonomy and accountability.
Participate in conflict resolution.
Supervise training for personnel regarding job duties, orientation & safety, equipment requirement to ensure proper functions of assigned duties.
Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and refer to Safety programs, policies, procedures and regulations.
support safety initiatives, identify improvement or corrective actions and following up on those actions
Understand, interpret and apply the principles of labor relations and clauses of the collective agreement.
Familiarize yourself with the departmental budgets to ensure good cost control
Participate in the maintenance planning process and assist with troubleshooting issues.
Perform reporting and administrative activities related to the role.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Post-Secondary diploma.
Have knowledge of the OHSA.
