Job Description

Turnaround
Coordinator

The successful candidate will be someone who can take us to the
next level through improved cost control measures driven by
risk-based thinking, and coordinate our Turnarounds as a full time
position in accordance with West Fraser’s Turnaround Code of
Practice. 

The Turnaround coordinator will not only help coordinate our
Turnarounds but also help define the overall strategy and ensure
that all work is consistent with that strategy, including
discussions with stakeholders at West Fraser corporate and other
West Fraser operations. They will also act as a coach and
mentor to the various groups within the mill as they develop the
plans for the Turnaround.  The coordinator will ensure that
best practices are used across the operation and will develop best
practices as necessary.

This position directly reports to the Maintenance &
Reliability Manager and they will also receive guidance and support
from the Corporate Turnaround & RBI Manager.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a Turnaround Charter with the mill’s Operating
    Committee
  • Leading the development of a critical path schedule
  • Leading evaluation of Turnaround scope and ensuring that
    Turnaround defined scope is appropriate
  • Leading schedule risk discussions
  • Providing support to the area teams developing schedules and
    work plans
  • Providing leadership in the development of the detailed
    planning process
  • Working closely with the Safety Coordinator and Contractor
    Coordinator to ensure that all safety documentation is properly
    prepared and disseminated
  • Leading the discussions on the Turnaround budget with all
    affected parties and having that budget set in the mill’s annual
    budget plan
  • Working with the cost coordinator to ensure that all relevant
    work is captured
  • Working with the cost coordinator to monitor cost trajectories
    and lead changes when necessary
  • Working with the mill’s management team to resolve issues in
    the Turnaround process as necessary
  • Leading all scope change approval processes
  • Leading weekly group meetings before the Turnaround
  • Leading daily wrap up meetings during the Turnaround (and
    attending many more)
  • Leading Post Completion Critique and ensuring that all relevant
    information is incorporated into future Turnarounds
  • Supporting the Turnaround execution at Hinton Pulp

You need to have:

  • A minimum of five years progressive industrial experience in a
    pulp mill or related process industry
  • Strong and proven leadership, planning, and budgeting
    skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Well established organizational and project management
    skills

We would like you to have:

  • Previous experience in Turnaround management
  • A strong working knowledge of MS Project
  • A strong working knowledge of MS Excel
  • A background in risk analysis
  • Familiarity with Maximo
  • An understanding of the interdependence of the various
    operational departments as it relates to starting up and shutting
    down
  • Experience in contractor management
