Adventures of the Summer

This will be the last of my blogs, so thank you once again to the sponsors and you the readers! I hope that things were up to snuff and entertaining enough for everyone. It’s been a slice and has allowed me to reflect on the shenanigans and adventures of the summer.

So the 21st was my last day of work and my life hasn’t slowed a bit; it’s actually sped up. After work on Friday, I loaded the car up with on my crap, checked out from the college, hammered on the car starter a couple times (literally) then booked it up to High Level to spend the last weekend in Alberta with my family there. The drive was a great way to end my summer. The sun was just starting to set, bright oranges, yellows and pinks with good tunes to keep me company. And I kid you not, just south of Red Earth, there appeared a bright rainbow over a small lake running adjacent to the highway. And on the water floating calmly along the ripples were two, majestic white swans. It was almost suggestive of a heavenly gesture that it was the right time to move on; if you believe in those sort of things.

I am now back home in Thunder Bay, and already I’ve been getting things in gear for my last year. Meetings and proposal letters, I unpacked all my stuff just to start packing for my field school which I fly out for on the 1st. Upcoming, shameless plug here. My team and I are also starting to plan the Lakehead University Natural Resources symposium for this coming January. So I pose a question and or a challenge to you, the theme this year will be new and advancing technologies in forestry and resource management, and if you wish to show off your new hardware or tech let me know!! I’d love to hear from ya. It’s going to be a convention-like event with lots of presenters and speakers through the day on four or five specific topics. This is a great educational and informative opportunity for students to meet and talk to industry leaders and innovators like you! We’re looking for cutting edge, inventive or out-of-the-box solutions to any and all questions to industry, environmental and social issues. My email is rwilkie1@lakeheadu.ca, so let me hear from you!

This will be my fourth and final year at LU, and I hope everyone has a great winter. For those that wish to continue with the zaney-ness and such, like the upcoming trip to South Africa, or the fun to be had through the school year, follow us on Lakehead Events facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/114022268692450/ or my Instagram at https://instagram.com/ryan.wilkie.56/ . I’ll be posting tons of photos and studying hard for the next 8 months and I look forward to see you all there!

Everyone at West Fraser and Alberta Plywood were amazing and provided a great working experience. I hope to see you guys again sometime soon.
For the final time this is your host, Ryan Wilkie, signing off from the Green Dream Blog and to all a good night.

Cheers.
