Close encounters with reporters and wildlife

So much has gone on these past few weeks. I have been featured in an internal company newsletter, congratulating me on my internship, and in a local newspaper regarding my internship.  The reporter from the Whitecourt Star even came out to talk to me and take my photo! During the interview, he asked me about what I thought about the way I got this internship, which was by submitting a video application, as well as other questions along that line.  To see the full article, click the link below.

I’m also posting pictures of some log piles that are the result of dispositions that I marked to be harvested, which I talked about in my previous blog. The log piles you see below are located at every kilometer, for at least 23 kilometers in total. Each log pile is a different size and, in total, represents a lot of cubic metres of wood. It’s great to see the outcome of all my hard work.

I have also had some close encounters with some of the wildlife here in Alberta, some of them a little too close for comfort. Earlier in the week, I saw my first moose, which was just slowly walking across the road.  I never knew moose could be so big!  Too bad I didn’t have my camera on me to show you, my readers, a picture.  My other close encounter was with a family of geese crossing a road.  They were at least 10 metres away, and I got out of my truck to get a close-up shot with my camera.  As I did so, the mother goose raised her head like a snake.  She started hissing and slowly coming at me. I ran back into my truck and started laughing.  Needless to say, I missed my chance at a good photo of the family. The only good photos of the wildlife I have taken so far are of a hawk on some power lines on the edge of the forest, which are included below.

This weekend, a rodeo is happening in Whitecourt, and I can’t wait to go! I have never been to a rodeo, so I will be taking many photos to share with my readers here on the blog.  Hopefully, you’re looking forward to seeing them as well.

But this week has certainly been full of adventures and challenges, as I’ve tried to find different culverts and determine what should be done to them in the future.  I even had the opportunity to do some ATVing out to a few culverts. I will include some of photos of these and other activities in my next blog.  Until next time!
