Some things I’ve learned while working in this industry:

• Whitecourt has been named Canada’s Forestry capital for the second year running.  How lucky is it that I get to work here?
• Canadian forests are replenished and consumed at a sustainable rate, ensuring the resource's infinite resilience.  Sustainability isn't a 'saying' here; it’s a commitment.
• The water used in this mill system, and others like it, is cleaned and pumped back out into local rivers in top condition to resume its natural place in the ecosystem.  That is very cool.
• The success of the industry is directly proportional to how much, and how well, we give back to the environment that we draw from to make our products.
• By law, all public forests that are harvested must be successfully renewed through planting and natural regeneration.
• Canada is the world largest exporter of forestry-related products.
• Environmental reputation attained through control policies, practices, and procedures is valued as highly by the forest industry as production and profit.
• This industry provides and supports, directly and indirectly, over 800 000 jobs in Canada.
• There are thousands of career paths available for people to participate in this field.  Diversity of job opportunity and job availability are two great perks of the industry, to name a few.
• Forestry in Canada is a 58 billion dollar industry.  Try that for size!
• Canada's rate of deforestation is zero. This is the second DECADE that it has been so. That is something to be proud of!

Forestry production is a long-term commitment to produce sustainably and provide products from a natural resource that is replenished year after year.  This fosters a responsible management, ensuring the resource and the industry are maintained for the future, a concept everyone is looking to achieve in the coming years.  Awesome!

The town of Whitecourt is named Forest Capital of Canada for the second consecutive year!
