Gone fishin’

Hi everyone!

I realized after re-reading my first blog that I didn’t give much of a personal background of myself so I’ll start with that. I was born and raised in Ottawa, ON. I went to Carleton University and graduated with a B.A. Honours in Environmental Studies. After having completed university and being an avid snowboarder I decided to save up some money and spend a winter snowboarding out west so I moved to Golden, BC as I had heard amazing things about Kicking Horse mountain resort. I fell in the love with the town and the surrounding mountains. After a couple years of working several different types of jobs, I got a job with a small forest consulting company called Pioneer. I worked for Pioneer for three years and loved working out in the forests around Golden. I decided that I was going to make forestry my career so I enrolled in the forest technology program at Selkirk College in Castlegar, BC. I have finished the first year of the two year program.

My last two weeks at West Fraser have been very busy. We had our last day of our S-100 (a basic wildfire safety course) and had a one day course on wetland/riparian classification in Williams Lake. The various training and safety courses are completed so now its five days a week in the forests! Now that the boundaries are finished, Fawn and I have begun to lay out the roads in our blocks. I really like laying out roads as you are trying to visualize the best spot for a road to be built while trying to keep the skidding distances within the block as short as possible.

Last weekend, I went to Williams Lake to visit a few friends and do some fishing. I caught a nice rainbow trout at a lake near the town (exact location will remain a secret). I also checked out the Fraser river canyon which was a pretty cool spot. I bought a used kayak on Thursday so this weekend I’ve been kayaking/fishing on the many lakes near 100 mile house.

Well that’s it for now, talk to you in a couple weeks!
