My first week at Weyerhaeuser

Initially I would like to thank Weyerhaeuser and The GreenestWorkforce for this delightful opportunity. Everyone at Weyerhaeuser was very welcoming and aided my transition from being a student in Vancouver to worker in Princeton.

My name is Riley Finn, I am from Kitchener Ontario and I am studying natural resource conservation at the University of British Columbia. In October of 2013 I received an email from the faculty of forestry’s student services, detailing the green dream internship and how the contest worked. It immediately stood out to me as an incredible opportunity to gain experience in the forestry industry so I promptly applied and went through the voting and interview process and was later offered a job with Weyerhaeuser!

My first impressions from working at Weyerhaeuser is that workplace safety is a number one priority, I have spent a lot of my first week here going through safety training and workplace orientation, in order to circumvent any possible incidents before they have a chance of happening, which contributes to why Weyerhaeuser is one of the safest forest product companies to work for. I have also done a day of planting and now appreciate the hard work that is required to plant trees, and I have had some exposure to ribboning boundaries and site evaluation for future planting. I look foreword to getting more experience with different aspects of the forest industry this summer!
