Summer is just flying by!

Hi again!

Rainy work dayWork has been really busy lately as summer is kicking into full gear. Fawn (my student partner for the summer) and I have continue to design cut blocks to be harvested in the future. This involves laying out boundaries, roads, machine free zones, wildlife tree patches and eventually we will do the site plan data collection. We moved into a few new area this week which is nice as we get to see some different terrain and features. A lot of swamps are in this zone so the bugs are still pretty bad but Fawn and I are used to them now. It’s getting hotter out now so we have to be sure to pack enough water for the day as you don’t want to drink the swamp water around these parts as you might be the price with good ol beaver fever!

Last week as we were making a boundary change near Cache Creek, we saw what we think was a grizzly bear. As soon as it saw us it ran away, so didn’t get a great look at it, but it was very brown and we were in grizzly bear habitat. Definitely keeps you alert out there!

Summer is just flying by! I can’t believe that it’s almost July. On my weekends, I’ve continued to explore the lakes and do some fishing. There’s so many lakes around here that you can pick a new one every time so it never gets boring! So far, working around 100 mile House with West Fraser has been a great experience and I’m sure that the next couple months will be rewarding as well.

Until next time,

Devin
