Working in Okanagan-Falls

Over the past couple of weeks I have been spending some time over in the Okanagan-Falls Weyerhaeuser office. Located about 100 km east of Princeton this opportunity has given me the chance to gain even more exposure to different geographies of the B.C. interior and how things are done differently in different areas.

One thing however about the office being so far away is that a requirement for getting a full days work in is to leave very early in the morning, this means leaving Princeton by 5:30. At first I wasn’t looking forward to having to leave so early, but luckily the drive is beautiful especially at that hour, because of this I haven’t minded getting up early at all.

Sunrise on highway 3a headed toward Penticton.

Looking back towards Princeton.

While in Ok Falls I have had a little bit of an introduction to the road system and how it is managed. In just one day I witnessed the construction of a new road, the restoration of an older road that required brushing in order to be put back into service, and the maintenance of a current road. I also had the pleasure to chat with each of the contractors and machine operators about what all goes into preforming each task. Talk about learning experience!

In the coming weeks I will also be carrying out survival surveys, to see how the trees are doing from the recently passed planting season. This task is a little more independent than some of my previous responsibilities and I am looking forward to the challenge!

Hard not to like working in a place that looks likes this!
