Elevated to town status in 1899, Windsor adopted its current name after Windsor Castle in England, in 1914. Known today for its ultramodern Domtar plant, which produces fine paper, Windsor had a rich industrial past, as told at the Parc historique de la Poudrière. This was Quebec’s first black powder or explosive plant, which began operations in 1864, and currently is home to an interpretation centre. The site features a guide, a multimedia show, and hiking trails where several archaeological artefacts can be admired along the Watopeka River.
