Final Blog and Thank You!

Well, my summer is almost over and soon I’ll be back to school. I’m glad I was able to get out of the city for the summer and work in Quesnel and have a few adventures. I biked my favourite trails, I planted some trees, saw baby birds hatch, and I spent time with my family and friends. My favourite part of the summer was exploring British Columbia.

Camping In The Chilcotin

September 7, 2016 6:58 pm Published by

On one of my last weekends of the summer I went camping. I originally wanted to go to Bella Coola because I’ve never been before. However, my boyfriend, Karl, didn’t want to go that far away. I still wanted to go west to the Coast Mountains so we went half way there and camped at Horn Lake. Horn Lake is just south of Tatla Lake,

A Drive Along The Cariboo Mountains

I’ve been signing up for overtime a lot the last month. I usually work it but I signed up this weekend and they didn’t have anything for me. So instead, I thought I would take the opportunity to go for a hike this morning at one of my favourite spots, Narcosli Creek. I told my mom last night that I was going to go,

Drying Plywood at West Fraser

As it might seem like it from my past blogs, but my summer isn’t entirely full of outdoor adventures; I do have to spend some time working. I’ve worked at West Fraser’s Quesnel Plywood a few different times over the past four years in between going to school and taking some time off to travel. They’ve been generous enough to keep hiring me back and at the moment I’m working as a summer student so that I go to British Columbia Institute of Technology and pursue a career in media.

Top 9 New Trees In My Backyard

July 19, 2016 6:30 pm Published by

This summer I’ve been helping my mom plant some new trees in our yard. There was a lot of digging and raking but they look pretty good and I know they’ll look even better in a few years when they start to mature. Some of them we bought new and some we transplanted from the forested area of our property.

A Canada Day Through Time

British Columbia wasn’t always made up of lumberjacks, like myself (I don’t actually cut down the trees, I just help in the production process, but I like the idea of being a lumberjack). Back in the 1800’s BC’s biggest attraction was a glittery yellow-y rare element called gold. And the man who struck gold in the Cariboo, was Billy Barker.

Exploring My Backyard Forests: Sisters Creek

June 19, 2016 3:42 pm Published by

I work in forestry; it accounts for half of every dollar generated in British Columbia. That’s a lot but doesn’t actually surprise me considering practically half of everyone I know in Quesnel works in forestry and every time I look outside I see nothing but key word “forest”!  I work with trees at Quesnel Plywood everyday but that isn’t enough for me.

Going Back To My Hometown

When I tell people I’m from Quesnel the response is usually “Where’s that again?” This is what I hear when I’m in Vancouver anyway. My usual reply is “Up North.” If I’m travelling abroad, people don’t always know British Columbia at all, which is understandable, so I say “You know Vancouver? It’s like near there, but not really anywhere near there.”
