Plants & Soil Data

These past two weeks, we have begun to collect SP (site plan) data. This involves doing several plots in an area to get an idea of the plants and soil types present in the area. This data is then used to classify the area in a certain BEC zone and site series. This information is then used to minimize disturbance during logging and for the proper trees to be replanted.

I can’t believe it’s already August! A lot has happened in the past few weeks. Fawn and I have begun to put the finishing touches on some blocks. As a layout crew we are deemed low risk but we still have to be careful out there. I’ve been sure to pack lots of water as the hot days can make you dehydrated very quickly.

Not that I hate school, and Selkirk College does a great job of mixing outdoor labs with class time, but I really enjoy being outside working. Not to mention that making money is a nice change from being a broke student.

Hi again!

Work has been really busy lately as summer is kicking into full gear. Fawn (my student partner for the summer) and I have continue to design cut blocks to be harvested in the future. This involves laying out boundaries, roads, machine free zones, wildlife tree patches and eventually we will do the site plan data collection.

Gone fishin’

Hi everyone!

I realized after re-reading my first blog that I didn’t give much of a personal background of myself so I’ll start with that. I was born and raised in Ottawa, ON. I went to Carleton University and graduated with a B.A. Honours in Environmental Studies. After having completed university and being an avid snowboarder I decided to save up some money and spend a winter snowboarding out west so I moved to Golden,
