Two more weeks have passed

Two more weeks have passed working with Weyerhaeuser, and things are still going great. I was on the AOP (Annual Operating Plan) layout crew again, navigating through blocks and using ribbon to mark boundaries, roads, creeks, and crossings. The average block is around 80 hectares, and we walk a good few kilometers every day. Work is pretty much a long hike every day, which is great in my books, especially when the weather cooperates. I have two weeks left with the layout crew until I move onto something new. Last week I did a quad safety training course which was good fun, and certified me to ride quads, which I’ll be doing soon. Last week we hit our one year without recordable injury date, so we all got rewarded with a BBQ lunch and gift cards. Weyerhaeuser takes safety very seriously, and does everything they can to ensure their employees stay safe, which is great to see in a company.

Grande Prairie’s been awesome outside of work too. A couple weekends ago I did the 37th annual DHT Press Run, a 10 or 21km race that over 450 people participated in, and I got my best 10km time yet! This past weekend, the Grande Prairie Stompede was in town, so I went and checked that out. Chuckwagon races, a midway, beer gardens and live country music – what more could you want?! This weekend, I’m hoping to hike Two Lakes and Kakwa Falls, and the weekend after, I’m heading to Beaverlodge to go camping with coworkers! It’s been an eventful month so far, and I’m enjoying every minute of it!
