Since we always have our phones with us, the pictures on our phone give a good representation of where we’ve been and what captured our attention. So to sum up my experience in Slave Lake so far I would like to share some pictures from my phone.

I had heard that a lot at school and a lot from my parents since numerous saw mills closed in the Vancouver area back in the late 1980’s. When I came to Slave Lake Pulp (SLP), I was expecting to work mostly with pulp and other wood products that are made by West Fraser. I was surprised when I arrived to learn I would be working on a “biomethanation”

Firstly, I would like to thank the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) and Slave Lake Pulp (SLP) for this wonderful opportunity. The managers at SLP were very welcoming and assisted me in every way possible with my move to Slave Lake.
A bit about myself:
My name’s Navjot and I’m from Surrey B.C., about a one hour drive southeast from Vancouver.

Opportunity: Whether you are a senior manager, a skilled tradesperson, a new graduate, or someone looking for a new career path, we all seek opportunity at one time or another.
My experience at Tolko and in the forest products industry has been defined by opportunity. Initially, my internship at Tolko was an opportunity to pursue my passion for people.

Apparently, the name “Mr. Thorlakson” doesn’t fly with Tolko’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
This was just one of the many useful facts that I learned when I sat down with the unassuming, approachable man behind the Vernon-based forest product empire.
Each quarter, Brad Thorlakson meets with ten employees at random in the Vernon Office for a frank,

As my blog focuses on my experience at Slave Lake Pulp (SLP), I thought I would like to introduce some of my co-workers; their educational background, career history and current positions at SLP to help define the atmosphere at my workplace. The diversity of personalities and experience make Slave Lake Pulp an excellent place to work and to learn. So without further ado,

Oh wow. This summer has gone by so fast! I have been busy packing up and getting ready for the trip home, as well as organizing my files at work. It’s hard to put all my experiences from this summer into words, from fun hikes through the woods to challenging moments at work. So, instead of providing a list of all my experiences thus far,

I can’t believe this is my last week with Weyerhaeuser! Time has flown by – it seems like last week I had arrived in Grande Prairie. After my last week, I’m heading out to William’s Lake, BC for a week long fall camp – a field school requirement for school, which I’m really looking forward to. From there, it’s back to Vancouver for my final year of my degree!

Well. Here it is. My last blog for this summer. What follows is a brief summary of everything I have done during my employment here at Millar Western. I have learned and done so much this summer that it is difficult to recall everything chronologically. But, I’ll try my absolute best to get everything correct, so bear with me.
So,

Another week has gone by, with only two more weeks remaining in my internship. This week I worked with Kyle Waterman the entire week, I helped him with his roads projects as well as him helping me with the pine beetle baiting program. It was a pretty typical week, other than Kyle finding a moose antler! I was glad he found it because I drove past it right before he found it (doh).

I am really enjoying working for DMI and spending time in Peace River.
I was able to make sometime the other day to check out the Peace River valley and take sme pictures up on one of the highest hills in the area “12 Foot Davis.”
One interesting thing I have done recently is collect root samples from aspen trees.
